Dear Colleagues,
A very warm greetings on IndianOil Day and the Golden Jubilee celebrations. It is a very privileged moment for me to take on my new responsibilities as Director (Pipelines) of IndianOil on this auspicious day.
Celebrating the Golden Jubilee of the Corporation, we have been determined to undertake the demanding tasks ahead to strengthen our leadership position in the downstream petroleum sector. IndianOil, from a fledgling company with a net worth of just Rs. 45.18 crore and sales of 1.38 million tonnes valued at Rs. 78 crore in the year 1965, has since grown over 3000 times with a sales turnover of Rs. 285,337 crore, the highest–ever for an Indian company, and a net profit of Rs. 2,950 crore for 2008-09. We are the highest ranked Indian company in the prestigious Fortune 'Global 500' listing, with 105th position in 2009.
We are proud today that IndianOil accounts for nearly half of India’s petroleum consumption, reaching precious petroleum products to millions of people everyday through a countrywide network of around 35,000 sales points. At present with a combined capacity of our 10 refineries at over 60 MMTPA we have projects under execution which will take the capacity further to 80 MMTPA by the year 2011-12. Our R&D Centre focuses on the future business needs in the areas of petrochemicals, including polymers, and alternative energy sources.
As a leading public sector enterprise of India, we have successfully combined our corporate social responsibility agenda with our business offerings, meeting the energy needs of millions of people everyday across the length and breadth of the country, traversing a diversity of cultures, difficult terrains and harsh climatic conditions. We take pride in our continuous investments in innovative technologies and solutions for sustainable energy flow and economic growth and in developing techno-economically viable and environment-friendly products & services for the benefit of our consumers.
We are geared up to meet crude oil supply arrangements through pipelines to meet the robust peak processing and expansion of refineries at Panipat, Koyali, Haldia, Mathura and of a new refinery at Paradip. Incredibly well planned growth strategies are ahead of us. The de-bottlenecking of Salaya-Mathura Pipeline at a project cost of Rs. 2037 crore with new loop-lines, replacement of old engines and installation of higher capacity mainline pumping units will ensure optimum supply of crude oil to our refineries. The Paradip-Haldia and Haldia-Barauni sections will be augmented to meet the crude oil transportation requirement in the eastern sector. We also have plans to install additional Single Point Mooring systems and transfer lines in Paradip.
We have charted out plans to product transportation with an ambitious 1108 km petroleum product pipeline project at a cost of Rs. 1793 crore coming up along with the commissioning of Paradip refinery to evacuate its products to New Sambalpur, Raipur and Ranchi. Many ongoing pipeline projects are on the threshold of completion that include Dadri-Panipat R-LNG Pipeline, Chennai-Bengaluru product pipeline, Mathura-Bharatpur Spur-line, Bijwasan-Panipat Naphtha Pipeline and Branch pipeline from Viramgam to Kandla.
Maintenance and inspection of existing infrastructure together with offshore terminals at Vadinar and Paradip, 63 bulk crude oil storage tanks at Vadinar, Viramgam, Chaksu, Haldia, Mundra and Paradip have been taken up to have a secured supply network. Complete protection of mainlines is being achieved with extensive coating refurbishment with cold applied tape and polyurethane. Through Instrumented Pig Survey, the health of pipelines is regularly monitored. The operational throughput of our pipelines will be ensured at optimum level with well-established and a healthy network. Our HR strategies are to be proactively aligned with core activities so as to achieve the highest degree of motivation and employee participation towards growth of the Corporation.
I am confident that in the coming years, with your continued support, there will be greater appreciation of the role of pipelines in the growth of IndianOil. I am sure that we, Pipeliners, would continue to remain sagacious as ever and ride the newer growth path that beckons us to further glories. We have no time to blink let alone relax. The woods may be lovely, dark and deep, but we have promises to keep, and miles to go before we sleep.
Providing consultancy to industry players in India and abroad is a distinct opportunity borne out of our strength in operations, maintenance and project execution. Besides being a source of revenue, these efforts will also help our personnel to evaluate themselves against industry benchmarks. The challenges that we foresee on account of existing and upcoming provisions of the PNGRB Act and the growing availability of gaseous fuels must be met suitably for sustaining and strengthening our leadership position.
In the years ahead, we have to focus on linking the marketing terminals and depots with network of pipelines for an efficient evacuation of petroleum products. LPG, ATF and gas pipelines are to be constructed for strategic transportation of these products from the refinery sources to marketing points. We should equip ourselves with necessary professional aptitude by adequate skill updates and peer collaboration to obtain the desired corporate goals in these endeavours. With the new vision of IndianOil being the energy of India and a globally admired company, let us focus on the initiatives based on our core values.
I look forward to receiving your suggestions and feedback and personally meeting many of you in the coming weeks. On IndianOil Day, my wife Uma joins me in wishing all the family members of IndianOil a flourishing success.
