Dear Colleagues,
The first quarter results for the quarter ending June 30th 2009, have just been announced in the recently concluded board meeting. This time we have been able to clock a handsome profit of 3683 Crore as compared to 415 Crore in the same quarter previous year. This is mainly because of decrease in under-realization and the gains on inventory. However, we need to improve our physical performance to sustain these results.
Early this month Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas called the CEOs of Oil PSUs for charting the vision 2015 document of the ministry. The Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Minister of State MoP&NG, Secretary MoP&NG and senior officials of the ministry participated in the event. The deliberations covered the roll-out plan of Vision 2015. The Government has set the agenda and targets for the upstream and downstream companies and made customer service as the prime focus of our future business. The Minister of State urged the downstream Oil Companies to focus on providing superior customer service especially on the business of LPG and increase rural thrust to enhance our reach in rural areas. Oil Industry has been given a target of achieving 5 Crore LPG connections in the next five years along with the development of anti-pilferage devices. Issues related to deeper penetration of the rural market, Kerosene diversion and oil security for the nation constituted the core concern of the CEOs meet.
The IndianOil Board held its strategy meet in Goa recently, wherein various issues were deliberated upon and presentations made to the Board. The Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas also participated in this meeting and while sharing his thoughts, the Secretary elaborated that the business plans should be realistic and take into account the prevailing industry environment. He stressed that these plans should be revisited annually to incorporate dynamic changes.
Our improved performance was acknowledged with the release of new Fortune 500 rankings. IndianOil moved up 11 places, in the latest Fortune 'Global 500' list of world's largest companies. Placed at 105, IndianOil continues to lead the pack of seven Indian companies appearing in the list which is based on the performance of 2008.
The ATF pipeline from Manali Refinery to Chennai airport was inaugurated by the Minister for Civil Aviation, Mr. Praful Patel in a glittering function held at Chennai. The ministers present in the function complimented the team at CPCL on the smooth planning, implementation and commissioning of this project. This 95 Km pipeline has come as a breather for the congested Chennai city as it leaves the city roads free of the tankers. The function also marked the inauguration of a 5.8 MGD Sea Water Desalination plant at CPCL by Mr. M.K. Stalin, Deputy Chief Minister of Tamilnadu. The Sea Water Desalination plant will give impetus to the functioning of CPCL primarily by making it self sufficient in its water requirement.
It is heartening to note that the Golden Jubilee celebrations are on in full swing across all our offices. Our Gujarat Refinery unveiled Mahatma Gandhi's statue, Guwahati Refinery reminisced its golden achievements, the Refineries Division recollected its proud contributions, the Pipelines Division celebrated its journey of growth and self sustainability, R&D Centre reinforced its commitment to innovative fuels development, the Marketing Division offices all rejoiced and reinforced their commitment to our valuable customers…I learnt of the various events being organized in our offices including the popular IndianOil Idol. “Keep up the good cheer and commitment to duty.”
Safety has been a real cause of concern. Despite our repeated cautions slippages are happening. I would like to reiterate the aspect of “Safety”. Recently, there were two fatal accidents – one in Bongaigaon in which a contract worker was hit and another, in Panipat Refinery where a labourer lost his life at the Naphtha Cracker project. Accidents and hazards must be prevented at all cost by proactive safety initiatives. I urge you all that safety at work must be imbibed as a habit by all the employees.
I await your feedback at behurias@iocl.co.in
