The National Safety Day is being observed today. On this day, we reiterate our commitment to safe practices and workplaces. Running in its 39th year now, this campaign has been instrumental in raising countrywide awareness levels on safety issues in work culture and lifestyle.
Occurrence of accidents is a telling statement on our safety culture. They bring into sharp focus the intrinsic hazardous nature of the hydrocarbons we deal with. The risks of these hazards are well-documented and we do have stringent systems & procedures to deal with these risks. However, the fire incident in the recent past is a wake-up call for us to identify the gaps in our operating procedures, and benchmark our safety systems with the international standards. At the same time, due cognizance should be given to the near-misses. These should not only be reported without fail but a detailed investigation into the causes and immediate rectification should be done.
Safety must be our First Job everyday. Each IOCian has to be a risk manager. Safety should not be seen as a task in itself, but should be embedded in our consciousness. I firmly believe that all accidents are avoidable. I earnestly appeal that each one of us thoroughly understands the installation-specific and job-specific safety risks associated with our activities. Let us commit ourselves to making IndianOil a zero-accident organisation today and always.
I wish you and your family members a safe, healthy and prosperous life.
